It’s been quite some time since my last little update. I pretty much told everyone how crazy fun Scotland was. Not to mention it’s great architecture and culture. Being there makes you feel like you’re stepping back in time, and that you’re living in some sort of medieval town. The town was always crowded with people. ALWAYS. I guess it’s because of the Edinburgh Arts Festival, which brings comedians, actors, dancers, performers from all over the world to perform for international crowds. I got to see one play, which was a bit short, but it was a bit intense for me. I went inside the Edinburgh castle, which was pretty breathtaking from its outside (The inside was cool too, but I liked admiring it from afar). The night life was pretty awesome, but way different than what we have in the US. Clubs don’t start getting crazy till about 1 am in the morning, and they always close at 5 am. (I have yet to stay up that late!!). One thing I could complain about was the service at restaurants. HORRIBLE. But my theory is that since waiters don’t get tipped here, they hardly care about customer service. But the food itself was definitely better than the one here in England. The trip was really fun, but it definitely went by too fast. Returning to England was a pain in the ass becuase OF COURSE the bus in which I was riding broke down, so we had to wait for hours for it to be repaired. The other bus, which was way more crowded with people from our program, got to go to Fountain Abbey, which is apparently really nice… and of course I didn’t get to go… The drive back was like 10 hours long. Not the most pleasant day. 

I’ve had class this entire week, which is a lot more different than the first week considering that I only had class once or twice at first. Now, my painting class is about 4 hours long (bleh).

Anyways, today we are going to Stratford Upon Avon- which is SHAKESPEARE’S birthplace. We’re also going to see a Shakespeare play in town. It should be pretty awesome. I’ll post some pics up later. This weekend we’re going to Bath and to see the Stonehenge!!

PERDON por no escribir en una semana! Pero les cuento que Escocia esta padrisimo. Creo que me gusto un poco mas que Inglaterra. Es muy diferente. Es casi como si la ciudad de Edinburgh (ciudad de Escocia) jamas hubiera sido afectada por el tiempo. Los edificios, catedrales, monumentos, etc son bellisimos y tambien bastante viejos. Las calles siempre estaban llenas de gente (por que habia un festival de arte todo el mes de Agosto donde participan actores, bailarines, comdiantes, etc). El lugar era chingonsisisisimo. Lo unico que no me gusto fue el servicio en los restaurantes. No se por que los meseros no tratan bien a los clientes (creo que es porque aqui  no se da propina, y pues les vale madre el servicio al cliente jajaj). El castillo de Edinburgh fue mi favorito. Esta grandisimo y esta encima de una montana, asi que puedes verlo en todas partes de la ciudad. Tambien escalamos dos montanias. En Una se podia ver toda la ciudad de Edinburgh y en la otra se veia pura naturaleza y lagos. Preciosos lugares.

Para mi mala suerte, al regresar de Escocia nuestro camion se descompuso, asi que nos quedamos esperando como 3 horas para k arreglaran el camion. El otro camion que venia con nosotros se fue a conocer “Fountain Abbey” que tambien es muy bonito, pero a mi no me toco conocer por lo que le paso a mi camion… nimodo :(

Hoy nos vamos a “Stratford Upon Avon” que es el pueblo en el que Nacio y se crio Shakespeare. Dicen que es un lugar muy padre, asi que luego les cuento como me fue. Veremos una obra de teatro de Shakespeare hoy en la noche. Creo que el lugar esta como a 2 horas de aqui, asi que tendremos que irnos en camion de nuevo, pero hoy mismo regresamos a Cambridge. En este fin de semana nos iremos a “Bath” y a ver el “Stonehenge” :] luego les cuento como me fue!!

Just woke up. Not too tired since I seriously knocked out at 11:30 (which never happens at home.) Going to take a shower, get some breakfast and hopped on that bus.. all 70ish of us are going to Scotland, so this should be interesting! The only downside- it’s a verrrry long drive : /. I don’t think we actually get to Scotland till about 8 pm tonight (and we’re leaving at 8 am). It’s going to take a while because we’re making a few stops to eat and such. Regardless, I’m fucking stoked! Anyways, I don’t have too much time to write a very long blog. I’m going to be gone for 5 days, and I won’t be taking my computer with me, so I’ll update you guys next week!

Estoy despertando. No estoy tan cansado por que me quede dormido bien temprano otra vez jajaja. Por fin es tiempo de irnos a Esocia. Todos mis companieros (Somos como 70) nos vamos en un camion a Escocia como a las 8 am. Lo unico malo es que no llegamos a Escocia hasta las 8 pm (es un largo viaje… pero tambien pararemos algunas veces para comer, asi que se hara mas largo de lo normal).. Pero no importa!! todo esta chido. No estare escribiendo en mi blog hasta el miercoles o jueves de la semana que viene por que no me llevare computadora a Esocia. Despues les digo como me va. Hasta luego!

First day of class ended..interestingly. I don’t know why I’m taking painting. Why. am. I. taking. painting?. Anyway, I’m still in land of perfect, so I can live with a boring/hard/humiliating class. :p

Finally went PUNTING last night. It was awesome, but REALLY TIRING. It turns out, I’m a bit of a pro at it (a very slow pro, but a pro nonetheless.) Everyone on our little punt/boat thing tried punting at different times, and well… let’s just say some of are better than others (though it is safe to say that ALDEANS are naturally talented at it. Kayla, Karla, and I were definitely the best at it ;]). I was the last one to try it, and I ended up taking us all the way back to the beginning of the river, which was quite a fucking work out. It was really fun, and a very unique experience. Cambridge just keeps surprising me in every little corner. Just when I thought things couldn’t get better, we ran into a little hookah bar down the street from our college- curing all our hookah problems. We were gonna head over to the hookah bar, but we ended up going to REVOLUTION (regular bar/restaurant/club down the street). It was 2 for 1 night, so of course we got double the drinks and double the trouble. Sadly, my high tolerance did not allow me to even buzz, but oh well, I had a great time. Karla on the other hand… hahahahah I’m sure she had the most fun. Anyway, I have class in an hour, and then I’m free for the rest of the day. I think I’m finally planning Amsterdam and Spain trips tonight, so I’ll let you know of the final decisions.

Ayer fue un dia padrisimo. Nos subimos en un bote y paseamos por el rio que esta solo a una cuadra de la Universidad (La foto esta arriba). El rio recorre toda la ciudad de cambridge, y pasa por todos los “colleges” de la Universidad. El bote solo se puede mover con la ayuda de un Palo gigante- se le llama “Punting”. Es un poco dificil, pero fui el que mejor lo hizo en mi grupo :] Que les puedo decir, soy talentoso por nacimiento, jajaja. Despues nos regresamos a la Universidad, pero como ya no teniamos nada que hacer nos fuimos al bar que esta a la esquina de la escuela. Se llama “Revolution” y fue noche de 2x1, asi que ya saben como nos fue jajajaj. No se crean, todo muy tranquilo y cereno. Regrese como a las 12:30 am y me quede super dormido. Hoy tengo clases en una hora, pero solamente tengo una clase hoy, asi que tengo el dia bastante libre despues de clases, asi que tendre que buscar que hacer (aun k aqui en Cambridge sobran cosas que ver/hacer/visitar/explorar). Creo que hoy planearemos lo que seran dos mini viajes a Espana y a Holanda (Amsterdam). Y manana por fin nos vamos a ESCOCIA por 5 dias!! Disculpen todos, pero creo que me vendre a vivir a Europa pronto.. es mi tipo de lugar- bonito, con ambiente y gente interesante. (igual que Mexico, pero podria decir que tal vez un poco mas bonito..pero solo un poco, por que como Mexico no hay dos!!). Bueno, me voyyy. Seguimos en contacto!

Woke up at 8:30 (for some reason, I haven’t even needed an alarm to wake up at all). Went out to get a notebook because I truly forget that I’m here to study sometimes (and class began today). Ate a “Full English Breakfast” down the street from Pembroke College for 5 pounds (which is way better than the breakfast we get here in the college, which is just cereal, fruit, and bread). Headed back to the college to go to my Art History class. The professor is funny. Class doesn’t seem too bad, except for the fact that we have to write a paper, but that’s not till the end of the course. That’s my day so far for all of you who care.

LAST night was a different drill. This is definitely a story I have to tell all of you personally lol Let’s just say it involved a club, a bottle, and a few very friendly Hungarian group haha. I have my other class in about two hours, so we’ll see how that goes. It’s at King’s college, which is pretty much the main/coolest/biggest college here in Cambridge, and most people have to pay to get in.. but my second class is there, so I’m pretty much the “cool kid” who can just show a card and get in. every. single. day. Cambridge is GREAT so far, but I’m afraid time here is going to flyyy- which doesn’t sound goood to me. Time, you can slow down now.

Primer dia de clases! Me desperte temprano en la maniana sin ninguna alarma (que sera? No he necesitado de alarmas para nada hasta hoy..) Despues me di cuenta que no tenia ni un solo cuaderno para tomar notas en clase, asi que  me sali a comprar uno antes de desayunar.. Lo bueno es que TODO, PERO TODOOOO esta muuyy cerca de la Universidad. Para todos lados puedes caminar. Si quieres un helada, caminas dos cuadras y hay un monton de lugares de helados. Si quieres comer, hay como 100 lugares para comer, hay starbucks, un supermercado, como 100 bares (jajaj en serio!), antros, y hasta un “farmers market”- que es como un tipo tianguis! Esta ciudad es preciosa lo van a ver en las fotos que suba a mi facebook pronto! Bueno, despues de comprar mi cuaderno, me encontre a unos amigos que me invitaron a desayunar a un lugar que esta a dos cuadras de mi Universidad- desayunamos un “Desayuno Ingles Completo”- huevo, pan, mantequilla, salchicha, tocino (pero era como jamon), y frijoles tipo dulces… muy rico, y mucho mejor que el desayuno que me ofrecen en la universidad (donde es mas cereal, frutas, pan, etc). Despues del desayuno me fui a mi primer clase. El profesor es muy buena onda.. La clase no esta nada mal, pero tendre que escribir un ensayo/reporte pronto :( NOO! Se me olvido que estoy aca para estudiar! jajaja, pero le hechare ganas. En dos horas tengo mi otra clase que esta en “Kings College” - como a una cuadra de “Pembroke College” (donde yo vivo ahorita). Despues les digo como me fue en esa clase. En unos dias nos vamos todos a Esocia por cinco dias! Y tambien estamos planeando un viaje de pisa y corre a Espana y a Holanda!!! Luego les aviso mis planes finales!

Dead tired, yet we’re all finding energy to sit down for an hour and try to have some sort of contact with “home”. First day in the UK and I already want to move here-though I surprisingly found out that most locals wish they could end up in California… poor souls think that everything is like in the tv shows and movies!!

The flight was very smooth (THANK GOD). Found our way to the hostel by taking the “tube” (MAN I WISH CALIFORNIA HAD A GOOD PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM)…then went on the “London Eye” to get a sick ass view of the city. Big ben—-HOLY SHIT- beautiful! The city is great. People of all ages out on the streets just trying to have a good time. Our hostel— sorta shady? nahhh, it’s part of it all. Everything’s great so far. No complaints.. well, maybe that I haven’t slept in 2 days, but fuck it, I’m in Europe babyy!!

YA LLEGUEE!!!! Gracias a dios mi vuelo fue bastante tranquilo. Vole por un total de 10 horas y la neta fue desgastante!! Pero no fue tan mal como pense. Cuando por fin llegamos, pronto compramos un boleto para el tren que nos llevaria hasta nuestro “hostel”. Ya cuando por fin llegamos a la estacion de tren mas cercana, caminamos por 10 minutos para encontrar el “hostel. Ya despues de instalarnos, salimos a conocer. Nos subimos al “London Eye” que es una como tipo “rueda de la fortuna” gigante que te deja ver la ciudad de londres. Al lado de tal rueda, esta el famosisisisismo “Big Ben” y pss no deje de tomar fotos toda la noche, que por cierto pronto las veran en facebook o por aqui. Despues comimos en un lugar (que desafortunadamente no recuerdo el nombre :().. todo hasta ahora va super chido la verdad. Ya maniana nos vamos para la ciudad de Cambridge, Inglaterra en donde esta la Universidad en la que tomare mis clases. Les cuento como me va en la escuela en cuanto pueda!! por ahora los dejo!!!… a por cierto.. los mcdonald’s de inglaterra estan chidos! jajajajajajaja

I could NOT sleep. I knocked out a little before 3:30 am, but I probably woke up every 20 minutes. Tossed and turned. Checked the clock every time I could. Excitement? I THINK SO! :D Anyway, this is my last post from America (Till September 10th or so). Gonna shower, go out to brunch with the parentals, and take care of a few more things before heading off to the airport. It’s a crazy day. Yes.

Llego el dia! Ayer me quede dormido hasta las 3:30 am, pero me despertaba a cada momento.. yo creo que es la emocion, no? :D Hoy es un dia de locos. Me desperte a las 8 am por que ya no pude quedarme mas tiempo en la cama, jajaaja. Ire a comer y a comprar un par de cosas que me faltan para el viaje… y despues.. AL AEROPUERTO :]!! Este es mi ultimo mensaje escrito desde Los Angeles. Asi que espero que la siguiente vez que escriba algo por aqui, lo este haciendo desde alguna parte de Europa. Hasta entonces!

Alright, why not? I guess I can join the small Tumblr craze. I think it’ll be a good way to let my inner frustrated poet out & update everyone (the very few of you who will actually care) on my life in Europe and beyond.

So..

It is now July 29th, and in less than 48 hours, I will be flying off to a dream. Literally. Call me corny and all, but Europe was, at least until this month, an almost unreachable dream. At this point, I can’t help but to think about all my “Paisanos” who can only dream about visiting England, France, Spain, or whatever other nation they dream of visiting. Unfortunately, for many (if not most of them) their dream will probably never  come true. And that’s exactly why I sit here thinking about all of those kids, teens, young adults and adults who are trapped within the walls of a nation that they perhaps love but will most likely offer them very little resources to achieve their dreams. This is when I realize how incredibly lucky I am. How thankful I am. How blessed I am. I will be thinking of everyone who has been a key part of my life, and I hope to share every single moment of this trip with you all.

Se acerca la hora. Por fin es el 29 de Julio y estoy a menos de 48 horas de mi partida a un sueno. Si, definitivament un sueno. En este momento me doy cuenta que soy tan afortunado de tener esta oportunidad. Se que hay miles de Mexicanos que tienen los mismos suenos que yo, y que desafortunadamente se encuentran en un pais que tal vez no les brinde los recursos necesarios para realizar todas sus metas. Es por eso que este viaje se lo dedico a todas esas personas que tal vez desean conocer algun lugar en Europa, pero que tal vez jamas podran lograrlo. Creanme, quisiera que todos tuvieran la oportunidad que a mi Dios y la vida me estan dando. Estare pensando en todo momento en mis Padres, Primos, Tias, Tios, Abuelos y Amigos que han sido una gran parte de mi vida. Los quiero y jamas me olvido de ustedes.

Pronto comienza la aventura y espero que sean parte de ella! (Asi que estamos en contacto por facebook, messenger, emails, y tambien este blog)
